India halts HPV vaccine trial after six girls die, US does nothing in response to 67 deaths and counting

(NaturalNews) The horrors caused by Merck & Co.’s Gardasil vaccine and GlaxoSmithKline’s (GSK) Cervarix vaccine continue as six young girls recently died from the shots during an experimental Indian trial. The two human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccines have been implicated in at least 67 deaths in the U.S., prompting no response from U.S. officials other than to keep pushing it on the public, but the six deaths in India have prompted the government there to immediately stop all trials of the vaccines.

“Two imported brands of the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccines, namely Gardasil and Cervarix, were allowed to undergo clinical trial (Phase III) in India, before being granted permission for import and market authorization,” explained S. Gandhiselvan, minister of state for healthy and family welfare, in a statement to India’s parliament. However, because of the deaths, he advised all states to stop vaccinating immediately.

According to reports, the trials were wholly unethical and illegitimate to begin with, and were nothing more than blatant exploitation by drug companies of disadvantaged people from a developing nation. Since many women in the industrialized world are now learning about the dangers of HPV vaccinations and rejecting them, Big Pharma has moved on to other populations in its quest to jab the entire world with the dangerous shots.

TruthAboutGardasil.org, a website devoted to exposing the true dangers associated with HPV vaccinations, also explains that drug companies are falsely advertising the vaccines in other counties, even going so far as to falsely claim that they are mandatory in the U.S., France and Australia.

“We consider this a human rights violation, and request the U.S. to take the lead in protecting fundamental human rights by calling for a congressional hearing,” said Rosemary Mathis from TruthAboutGardasil.org.

However, there have been 67 U.S. deaths from HPV vaccinations reported thus far in the Vaccine Adverse Event Report System (VAERS), and countless reports of serious, life-damaging side effects, and officials have done nothing about it. So it is unlikely that the U.S. will do anything to stop the poison from being marketed around the world as a cure.

in India once more, when four children died after they received the measles vaccination in Lucknow. The four children were reported to have fainted soon after they were vaccinated and witnesses reported seeing the children’s eyes roll back as they began to have seizures. All of the children were under the age of two years of age, with the youngest being just six months. Sadly the children died before medical aid workers could reach them.

As news of the deaths spread, immunization drives in 41 villages have been halted until further investigations have taken place.

The Indian Express stated in their article 4 children die within minutes of vaccination – www.indianexpress.com that-

“The immunisation programme was being conducted as part of the government’s Jachha Bachha Suraksha Abhiyan launched on August 15. Minutes after vaccination, the children started gasping for breath.”

NDTV reported that the Health Ministry has ordered an inquiry after the four infants, all believed to be below nine months, died after the vaccine. The inquiry team has yet to reach Uttar Pradesh, however, the Uttar Pradesh government has announced compensation for the families of the victims.

This is not the first report of adverse reactions after the measles vaccination. The measles vaccine has had a dubious and rather tainted history. In the UK, a government report dating back to 1968 , exposed on the website VacTruth.com in May of this year stated:-

Section 6 – Reactions

“Mild febrile reactions and transient rashes may be expected to follow the administration of the vaccine in a substantial proportion of cases. The rise of body temperature which may occur from 5 to 10 days after vaccination – usually about the 8th day – is due to the multiplication of the attenuated virus. This febrile reaction, when it occurs, seldom lasts more than 24 to 48 hours. The Committee on Safety of Drugs has agreed that severe and unusual reactions to measles vaccine should be reported on the yellow card used for reporting adverse reactions to drugs. The Committee does not however, wish to receive reports of mild febrile reactions and rashes associated with the use of this vaccine.”

This proves that the UK government as far back 1968 knew that the measles vaccine gave children adverse reactions, in fact, after reading the papers it is very clear that they were quite happy to be offering babies a vaccine that they admit, in a substantial proportion of cases, gives them high fevers and rashes.

That same report stated in section 7 that it was unwise for this vaccine to be given to children under the age of 9 months.

“Section 7 – Routine Vaccination

The live measles vaccine should not be given to children below the age of nine months since it usually fails to immunise such children, owing to the presence of maternally transmitted antibodies.”

The Joint Committee of Vaccination and Immunization who advise the government said that the vaccine should instead be given to children in their second year of life after the completion of the immunisation against diphtheria, tetanus whooping cough and polio.!

Yet it appears that none of this was ever even considered before the children of India were vaccinated.

In India ,this is the third vaccine disaster this year. In April the Indian Times wrote an article Hib vaccine: Are press releases telling whole truth? – Health … and reported that their country was being misled over the effectiveness of the HIB vaccine. The vaccine for Haemophilus influenzae type b (the main cause of childhood meningitis and pneumonia) was advertised as being safe and effective however, in the Medical Journal of Medical Research three senior paediatricians accused three agencies, USAID, John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health the Hib Initiative and the GAVI Alliance of misrepresentation of the facts by selectively and inaccurately reporting the actual findings of the Bangladesh Hib probe study in order to promote the vaccine’s wider use. The India Times said :-

“According to the Agencies joint press release the results of the Bangladesh study conducted in 2007 “showed that the routine immunization of infants with the Hib conjugate vaccine prevented over one-third of life-threatening pneumonia cases and approximately 90 per cent of Hib meningitis cases”.

It further said “this vaccine study builds on the evidence of the real burden of Hib pneumonia” in Indonesia.

Both these statements argue in favour of Hib vaccination in developing countries through “selective interpretation/presentation of the actual research findings”, says Jacob Puliyel at St. Stephens Hospital in New Dehli and one of the doctors finding fault with the press release.

The Bangladesh study compared Hib vaccination status among children with confirmed pneumonia or meningitis against those without these diseases (controls). The major finding that there was “no difference” in the Hib vaccination status of children with pneumonia compared to community controls was omitted in the press release, the Indian doctors claim.

The study also found that among those who received all three doses of the vaccine, there was “no statistically significant protective effect” against either confirmed meningitis or probable meningitis but it found statistical significance in a sub-group that received only two doses of the vaccine.”

The Times continued:-

“The press release made another misrepresentation by saying the study “builds on” evidence of the burden of Hib pneumonia from Indonesia whereas the Indonesia study actually reported more pneumonia in the Hib vaccinated group than controls, says Puliyel.

In fact, the Indonesia study paper concludes by saying

” Hib Vaccine” will not have a major role in efforts to reduce the overall burden of respiratory illness…..as improvements in nutritional status, maternal education and socioeconomic status” (can have).”

Sadly India were to be told further vaccine lies again in April this year, this time relating to the Gardasil vaccine. In an article I wrote at the time India suspends use of HPV Gardasil vaccines :: Weekly Blitz I reported the following:-

“It seems that the HPV vaccine Gardasil manufactured by Merck, has been in the spotlight again this week, as the news pours in that the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has decided to immediately suspend it’s cervical cancer control vaccination programme for girls. The action was taken after 4 girls died and 120 were injured after receiving the vaccine.”

Further on I continued by adding:-

“The programme was marred by controversy after four deaths and complications among 120 girls were reported after vaccination. The girls complained of stomach disorders, epilepsy, headaches and early menarche. Women activists fear the vaccine may impact the mental health of girls who have shown no signs of distress so far.”

A few weeks later a letter appeared on the front page of the The Hindu on the 14th April 2010 to Azad that read:-

“Another issue which unfortunately has not been addressed in your letter is the conflict of interest involved in the PATH project. This NGO is a partner of the manufacturing company MERCK in other projects.

As a partner, it can be easily understood that the conflict arises from the interests of the subjects of the project, in this case children, on the one hand, and the vaccine manufacturer, on the other.

If there is not to be a cover-up of what appears prima facie to be a case of connivance with a vaccine manufacturing company in violation of set guidelines, I would once again request you to kindly look into the aspect of the inquiry, both in its terms of reference and in its composition.”

So if The Hindu’s research is correct and all indications show that it is, the NGO can hardly be classified as impartial, can he?

The campaign group the Truth about Gardasil were disgusted by these revaluations. India was at the time a country trying to come to terms with the fact that their children were used as part of an experiment, when all the time it was known that the vaccine used had been seen to cause adverse reactions worldwide.

The Truth about Gardasil put out a press release stating:

“Where is representation for the families of the four young tribal girls in Khammam district who died following the vaccination? Where is representation from the 70 public health organizations, networks, medical professionals, human rights groups and women’s organizations that brought the HPV vaccine campaign in India to its knees on April 7, 2010 by voicing their intense opposition to the unethical nature of the HPV vaccination ‘projects’ conducted in Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat by PATH International, in collaboration with ICMR and State Governments?

Where are these organizations now? Perhaps they will be allowed to sit in the balcony of their congressional hall just as the women adversely affected by the first birth controls pills in the 1960’s had to do as they listened to senate testimony orated by men as they argued the risks and benefits in January of 1971.”

However, the deaths did not stop there as the death toll in India rose to 6 but according to the reports that followed none of the deaths had anything to do with this vaccine. One article reported the deaths of the 6 girls was not due to vaccine failure but according to Indian minister they were put down to various causes including, viral fever, drowning, suicide and a suspected snake bite.

If vaccines continue to injure and kill the children of India, India may decide to become the first country to ban vaccinations altogether, after all who could blame them?

As yet no one is sure why there have been so many vaccine disasters in India this year. It seems that false advertising by the drugs companies and conflicts of interest could be held responsible at least to some extent.

In Face Of Egg Recall, FDA Calls For More Authority

 Giving a series of network interviews in the wake of the egg and salmonella breakout, Hamburg said the FDA is taking the issue “very, very seriously.” At the same time, she said Congress should pass pending legislation that would provide her agency with greater enforcement power, including new authority over imported food.

 “We need better abilities and authorities to put in place these preventive controls and hold companies accountable,” Hamburg said as she discussed the approximately 1,300 cases of salmonella poisoning and the recall of roughly a half-billion eggs from two Iowa egg distributors.

 She also had some practical advice for consumers: Reject over-easy eggs. She said that as federal investigators continue their work with the companies involved, consumers should strictly avoid “runny egg yolks for mopping up with toast.”

 Two Iowa farms linked to the disease outbreak — Wright County Egg and Hillandale Farms — share suppliers of chickens and feed as well as ties to an Iowa business with a history of violating state and federal law.

 The number of illnesses, which can be life-threatening, especially to those with weakened immune systems, is expected to increase. The most common symptoms are diarrhea, abdominal cramps and fever eight to 72 hours of eating a contaminated product.

 Jewanna Porter, a spokeswoman for the egg industry, said Saturday the company Quality Egg supplies young chickens and feed to both Wright County Egg and Hillandale Farms. The two share other suppliers, she said, but she did not name them.

 The egg industry has consolidated over recent years, placing fewer, larger businesses in control over much of the nation’s egg supply to consumers.

 The salmonella outbreak has raised questions about federal inspections of egg farms. The FDA oversees inspections of shell eggs, while the Agriculture Department is in charge of inspecting other egg products.

 William D. Marler, a Seattle attorney for a person who filed suit alleging illness from tainted eggs in a salad at a restaurant in Kenosha, Wis., said Sunday his firm has been retained by two dozen families and was representing a woman who was hospitalized in California.

 Businessman Austin “Jack” DeCoster owns Wright County Egg and Quality Egg. Wright County Egg recalled 380 million eggs Aug. 13 after it was linked to more than 1,000 cases of salmonella poisoning. A week later, Hillandale Farms recalled 170 million eggs.

 DeCoster’s companies have a long history of problems:

 – In 1994, the state of Iowa assessed at least four separate penalties against DeCoster Farms for environmental violations, many of them involving hog waste.

 — In 1997, DeCoster Egg Farms agreed to pay $2 million in fines to settle citations brought in 1996 for health and safety violations at DeCoster’s farm in Turner, Maine. The nation’s labor secretary at the time, Robert Reich, said conditions were “as dangerous and oppressive as any sweatshop.” Reich’s successor, Alexis Herman, called the state of the farms “simply atrocious,” citing unguarded machinery, electrical hazards, exposure to harmful bacteria and other unsanitary conditions.

 –In 2000, Iowa designated DeCoster a “habitual violator” of environmental regulations for problems that included hog manure runoff into waterways. The label made him subject to increased penalties and prohibited him from building new farms.

 — In 2002, the federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission announced a more than $1.5 million settlement of an employment discrimination lawsuit against DeCoster Farms on behalf of Mexican women who reported they were subjected to sexual harassment, including rape, abuse and retaliation by some supervisory workers at DeCoster’s Wright County plants.

 — In 2007, 51 workers were arrested during an immigration raid at six DeCoster egg farms. His farms had been the subject of at least three previous raids.

 -In June 2010, Maine Contract Farming, the successor company to DeCoster Egg Farms, agreed in state court to pay $25,000 in penalties and to make a one-time payment of $100,000 to the Maine Department of Agriculture over animal cruelty allegations that were spurred by a hidden-camera investigation by an animal welfare organization.

 In a statement Sunday, Wright County Egg spokeswoman Hinda Mitchell said the company had reacted quickly in the past to correct its operations when “issues have been raised about our farms.”

“We are approaching our work with FDA in the same forthright manner,” she said.

 The FDA investigation could take months, and sources of contamination are often difficult to find.

 The CDC said last week that investigations by 10 states since April have identified 26 cases where more than one person became ill. Preliminary information showed that Wright was the supplier in at least 15 of those cases.

Senate Bill S510 Makes it illegal to Grow, Share, Trade or Sell Homegrown Food

S 510, the Food Safety Modernization Act of 2010,  may be the most dangerous bill in the history of the US.  It is to our food what the bailout was to our economy, only we can live without money.

“If accepted [S 510] would preclude the public’s right to grow, own, trade, transport, share, feed and eat each and every food that nature makes.  It will become the most offensive authority against the cultivation, trade and consumption of food and agricultural products of one’s choice. It will be unconstitutional and contrary to natural law or, if you like, the will of God.”  ~Dr. Shiv Chopra, Canada Health whistleblower

It is similar to what India faced with imposition of the salt tax during British rule, only S 510 extends control over all food in the US, violating the fundamental human right to food.

Monsanto says it has no interest in the bill and would not benefit from it, but Monsanto’s Michael Taylor who gave us rBGH and unregulated genetically modified (GM) organisms, appears to have designed it and is waiting as an appointed Food Czar to the FDA (a position unapproved by Congress) to administer the agency it would create — without judicial review — if it passes.  S 510 would give Monsanto unlimited power over all US seed, food supplements, food and farming.

History

In the 1990s, Bill Clinton introduced HACCP (Hazardous Analysis Critical Control Points) purportedly to deal with contamination in the meat industry.  Clinton’s HACCP delighted the offending corporate (World Trade Organization “WTO”) meat packers since it allowed them to inspect themselves, eliminated thousands of local food processors (with no history of contamination), and centralized meat into their control.  Monsanto promoted HACCP.

In 2008, Hillary Clinton, urged a powerful centralized food safety agency as part of her campaign for president.  Her advisor was Mark Penn, CEO of Burson Marsteller*, a giant PR firm representing Monsanto.  Clinton lost, but Clinton friends such as Rosa DeLauro, whose husband’s firm lists Monsanto as a progressive client and globalization as an area of expertise, introduced early versions of S 510.

S 510 fails on moral, social, economic, political, constitutional, and human survival grounds.

1.  It puts all US food and all US farms under Homeland Security and the Department of Defense, in the event of contamination or an ill-defined emergency.  It resembles the Kissinger Plan.

2.  It would end US sovereignty over its own food supply by insisting on compliance with the WTO, thus threatening national security.  It would end the Uruguay Round Agreement Act of 1994, which put US sovereignty and US law under perfect protection.  Instead, S 510 says:

COMPLIANCE WITH INTERNATIONAL AGREEMENTS.

Nothing in this Act (or an amendment made by this Act) shall be construed in a manner inconsistent with the agreement establishing the World Trade Organization or any other treaty or international agreement to which the United States is a party.

3.  It would allow the government, under Maritime Law, to define the introduction of any food into commerce (even direct sales between individuals) as smuggling into “the United States.” Since under that law, the US is a corporate entity and not a location, “entry of food into the US” covers food produced anywhere within the land mass of this country and “entering into” it by virtue of being produced.

    4.  It imposes Codex Alimentarius on the US, a global system of control over food. It allows the United Nations (UN), World Health Organization (WHO), UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), and the WTO to take control of every food on earth and remove access to natural food supplements.  Its bizarre history and its expected impact in limiting access to adequate nutrition (while mandating GM food, GM animals, pesticides, hormones, irradiation of food, etc.) threatens all safe and organic food and health itself, since the world knows now it needs vitamins to survive, not just to treat illnesses.

    5.  It would remove the right to clean, store and thus own seed in the US, putting control of seeds in the hands of Monsanto and other multinationals, threatening US security. See Seeds – How to criminalize them, for more details.

    6.  It includes NAIS, an animal traceability program that threatens all small farmers and ranchers raising animals. The UN is participating through the WHO, FAO, WTO, and World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) in allowing mass slaughter of even heritage breeds of animals and without proof of disease.  Biodiversity in farm animals is being wiped out to substitute genetically engineered animals on which corporations hold patents.  Animal diseases can be falsely declared.  S 510 includes the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), despite its corrupt involvement in the H1N1 scandal, which is now said to have been concocted by the corporations.

    7.  It extends a failed and destructive HACCP to all food, thus threatening to do to all local food production and farming what HACCP did to meat production – put it in corporate hands and worsen food safety.

    8.  It deconstructs what is left of the American economy. It takes agriculture and food, which are the cornerstone of all economies, out of the hands of the citizenry, and puts them under the total control of multinational corporations influencing the UN, WHO, FAO and WTO, with HHS, and CDC, acting as agents, with Homeland Security as the enforcer.  The chance to rebuild the economy based on farming, ranching, gardens, food production, natural health, and all the jobs, tools and connected occupations would be eliminated.

    9.  It would allow the government to mandate antibiotics, hormones, slaughterhouse waste, pesticides and GMOs. This would industrialize every farm in the US, eliminate local organic farming, greatly increase global warming from increased use of oil-based products and long-distance delivery of foods, and make food even more unsafe.  The five items listed — the Five Pillars of Food Safety — are precisely the items in the food supply which are the primary source of its danger.

    10. It uses food crimes as the entry into police state power and control. The bill postpones defining all the regulations to be imposed; postpones defining crimes to be punished, postpones defining penalties to be applied.  It removes fundamental constitutional protections from all citizens in the country, making them subject to a corporate tribunal with unlimited power and penalties, and without judicial review. It is (similar to C-6 in Canada) the end of Rule of Law in the US.

    (NaturalNews) Much of the fluoride added to municipal water supplies across the United States is imported from China, and is contaminated with heavy metals, according to a warning by Bernard Miltenberger, president of the Pure Water Committee of Western Maryland.

    In a letter published in the Cumberland Times-News, Miltenberger notes that he first became aware of the issue in an engineering report for the city of Boulder, Colo. The report noted that the fluoridation chemicals used for the city’s water had been evaluated, and were found to contain lead levels of 40 milligrams per bag and arsenic levels of 50 milligrams per bag. The bags were being imported from China under no regulatory monitoring of acid or salt content.

    Miltenberger then visited the Frostburg Water Filtration Plant in Maryland and noticed that the fluoride bags were not labeled with any importation information. He contacted the plant’s chemical supplier, Univar USA, and was then referred to Sovay fluorides. Sovay informed him that the fluoride had been manufactured by Shanghai Minthchem Development in China.

    “This type of trade from a country with a track record of lead paint on toys to antifreeze in cough syrup medicine is completely unacceptable,” Miltenberger writes.

    Heavy metal contamination is only the latest concern to emerge over the practice of water fluoridation, which has been controversial since its inception. Fluoride is a well-known toxic chemical, as Miltenberger notes:

    “The material safety data sheets from Solvay fluorides show that a teaspoon amount of five grams of sodium fluoride can be fatal to an average size man of 70kg. … chronic toxicity by oral route may cause skeletal and dental fluorosis, thyroid, testes, kidney, liver, ambiguous carcinogenic and mutagenic effects, fetotoxic and fertility effects.”

    Miltenberger also notes that fluoride toothpaste contains a warning that anyone who consumes more than a pea-size amount should contact a poison control center at once. This amount of toothpaste contains as much fluoride as just eight ounces of fluoridated water. A prescription-strength fluoride supplement marketed by Colgate warns that children under the age of six should not consume doses regularly added to municipal water.

    Doctor urges fast food restaurants to hand out pharma drugs like ketchup packets (opinion)

    (NaturalNews) It sounds like an April Fool’s joke, but it isn’t: A doctor from Imperial College London whose study was published in the American Journal of Cardiology has proclaimed that people who eat burgers and milkshakes at fast food restaurants should be given free statin drugs (like ketchup packets) to counteract the cholesterol effects of eating burgers.

    “Fast food outlets could provide statin drugs free of charge,” says Dr. Darrel Francis, lead author of study, who goes on to complain that statin drugs shouldn’t be prescription drugs at all. People should be able to get them as easily as asking for a packet of ketchup: “It makes sense to make risk-reducing supplements available just as easily as the unhealthy condiments that are provided free of charge,” Francis says, calling statins a “supplement” instead of a drug. Yeah, as if it were a nutrient or something.

    What Francis doesn’t mention is the disastrous side effects of statin drugs: Extreme muscle pain and weakness, kidney failure, the loss of CoQ10 (a vital nutrient for heart health), liver damage, erectile dysfunction, constipation and much more. I know people who say they were almost killed by statin drugs but who thankfully recognized the symptoms and stopped taking these dangerous chemical medications before things got worse.

    But this doctor from Imperial College London apparently doesn’t believe such side effects are a big deal. Statin drugs are so safe, he says, that fast food restaurants should just hand them out like candy.

    Dangerous advice from a doctor

    The very premise of this argument is extremely dangerous: That you can go ahead and keep eating toxic fast food as long as you “protect” yourself by taking dangerous chemical medications.

    Gee, could you possibly get any worse health advice? It’s no wonder this advice is coming from a conventional M.D. The idea that you can block the harm from fast food by swallowing a patented chemical medication with your meal is so absurd as to be stupid. Really: It’s just a simplistic, low-I.Q. conclusion from a doctor who obviously knows nothing about nutrition.

    What’s he going to recommend next? Free chemo pills to counteract the cancer-causing effects of bacon and sausage? Here, kids, chow down on a little chemo before you head off to school. It’s good for ya! Maybe the industry will come up with gummy-shaped chemo bears for kids. (Don’t laugh. I’ve made similarly comical suggestions in the past that turned out to be true…)

    But here’s the best part of Dr. Francis’ absurd logic: He compares taking statin drugs to the safety of wearing a seat belt while driving!

    “When people engage in risky behaviors like driving or smoking, they’re encouraged to take measures that minimize their risk, like wearing a seatbelt or choosing cigarettes with filters. Taking a statin is a rational way of lowering some of the risks of eating a fatty meal,” he says.

    Sure it is — if you enjoy kidney disease, liver disease, muscle weakness, CoQ10 depletion and other side effects. If you’re a foolish consumer who thinks you can counteract the dangerous chemicals in fast food by swallowing another dangerous chemical to “counteract” it, then free statin drugs might sound downright brilliant.

    But in the real world, where the laws of biochemistry don’t cater to the absurd ideas of drug-pushing researchers, fast food is bad for your health… and so is taking chemical medications. If you combine them, you don’t neutralize your health risk — you increase your total health risk by expanding it into all the areas of statin drug side effects.

    So now, instead of just destroying your heart and pancreas by wolfing down fast food, you’re also threatening your liver and kidneys with a chemical drug. That a doctor would actually recommend giving out free statin drugs to fast food customers is yet more proof that conventional medical training is a total failure and that mainstream doctors continue to remain clueless about real answers to health.

    The real answer to health, in this case, is to stop eating fast food hamburgers and milkshakes. And stop taking dangerous chemical medications while you’re at it. If you really want a healthy heart, blend up a superfood smoothie for lunch, or eat some heart-healthy fresh fruits and vegetables.

    What’s next from medical Loonyville?

    Now, think about this story. If Imperial College London can actually issue a press release touting this quack research (http://www3.imperial.ac.uk/newsande…), and if a high-level researcher like Dr Darrel Francis (http://www1.imperial.ac.uk/medicine…) can genuinely conclude that free medications should be handed out to customers like ketchup packets, then what else might these people come up with?

    Happy Meals with free antidepressants, of course! Buy a Happy Meal and your kid gets some psychiatric drugs included with the toy. Munch away, kiddies!

    Or how about free diabetes drugs with every 12-pack of Coca-Cola products. Drink up all that liquid sugar, folks, and just be sure to swallow your diabetes pills that are included!

    Why not have free chemotherapy pills in every pack of hot dogs? That way, little kids can eat their hot dogs and then experience just enough nausea to vomit the processed meat back up. Problem solved!

    See, this whole idea that you can just throw more chemical medications at consumers and thereby “protect” them from food-induced diseases is pure medical madness. That someone from the world of conventional medicine would even suggest such a thing speaks poorly about the credibility of the medical industry at large. It’s becoming increasingly obvious to even mainstream consumers that following the health advice of conventional doctors is a very bad idea.

    Hey, why not just sell statin drug sandwiches where the drugs are baked right into the bread? Don’t laugh: It wasn’t too long ago that doctors in America suggested they drip statin drugs into the water supply because the drugs were so safe and effective that everyone needed them!

    Yeah, just like fluoride, if you can believe that.

    You know, I think the bottom line here is that too many medical researchers are taking their own drugs. Because one of the very first side effects from taking daily medications is a loss of cognitive function and impaired ability to reason. And when that goes, there’s no telling what kind of whoppers these people will come up with.

    Pancreatic-Cancer-High-Fructose-Intake Some say that the headlines about the fructose in high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) causing pancreatic cancer are alarmist and based on poor science. But there’s a deeper story at work here. Not only are there are multiple studies and angles that back up the notion that we should stop eating the corn-based sweetener, but the people supporting the product have a few interesting things in common. // //

    The Studies

    The article linked above mentions one study that says that cancer cells feed better on fructose than on glucose. The (incorrect) conclusion is that HFCS is more carcinogenic than table sugar. The truth is, it merely feeds cancer more effectively.

    Because I know someone will say it: no, high fructose corn syrup is NOT the same as table sugar. Table sugar has almost exactly a 50/50 ratio of fructose to glucose; HFCS is processed to be 55/45 in favor of fructose. Moreover, the fructose in table sugar is attached to a glucose molecule — the fructose in HFCS is unattached, which makes it much more quickly and easily absorbed into the human body. Combine the extra fructose with the fact that it’s digested and used more directly (and via a different chemical mechanism) than the fructose in table sugar, and you get an entirely different beast.

    This study by a group at Princeton shows that “male rats given water sweetened with high-fructose corn syrup in addition to a standard diet of rat chow gained much more weight than male rats that received water sweetened with table sugar, or sucrose, in conjunction with the standard diet.” This study says outright that consumption of HFCS makes you fat, pre-diabetic, and raises your triglyceride and cholesterol counts. “[T]he authors…show nicely that [fat cell creation] in humans is markedly enhanced during chronic exposure to fructose.”

    An Important Aside

    Before you panic about eating fruit, listen up: fruit’s fructose, like that of table sugar, is bound up in other molecules. It doesn’t digest easily like the fructose in HFCS. But far more importantly, fruit comes with a ton of other nutrients, enzymes, and cofactors — which help your body process the fructose in ways that it can’t do with refined foods like HFCS. Fruit, because it comes with all of the natural ‘packaging’, is fructose in a form your body loves. Processed fructose, whether it’s HFCS, agave syrup, or pure fructose crystals, is in a form your body can’t cope with.

    The People

    In response to the first article linked above, All247News was blessed with the response of a member of the Corn Refiner’s Association, Shannon McNamara. Ms. McNamara was happy to provide us with several links to groups which denigrated the ‘fear mongers’ who were extolling the sins of high fructose corn syrup, pancreatic-cancer-causing or otherwise. In investigating her links, a striking pattern emerges.

    Her first link is to a page published by the American Council on Science and Health. According to SourceWatch.org, “In the latest years for which information is available, some 40 percent of ACSH’s budget was supplied directly by industry, including a long list of food, drug and chemical companies that have a vested interest in supporting [their] message.” She also links to SweetSurprise.com, a website that is known to be paid for entirely by the corn industry.

    Her other links, while they might look impressive, all say the same (true) thing: the pancreatic cancer study didn’t target HFCS, it targeted fructose. What they don’t say is that HFCS has more fructose than table sugar and that the fructose in HFCS is more easily absorbed into the body. Maybe they don’t know; maybe they’re paid by the corn industry as well (just less obviously).

    In short, the entire debacle about high fructose corn syrup causing pancreatic cancer is a giant smoke-and-mirrors game. The people who get paid by the corn lobby loudly attack those who misstate a study’s result while silently ignoring study after legitimate study that tells everyone what they secretly already know: pancreatic cancer or no, HFCS is bad for you, period.

    GMO Corn and How A Little-Known Supreme Court Case Could Kill Our Grandchildren

    Big business controls American food on nearly every level.  In most cases, the effects on our health are merely questionable, but one specific set of circumstances is endangering human life in general, and American life in particular: the genetically-modified plant world.  There are many elements to the story, from the corporate to the judicial to the biological.

    It all started with a 1980 Supreme Court case, Diamond v. Chakrabarty, wherein the Court determined that living organisms could be patented.  This led to the US Patent Office deciding five years later (in a case called Ex parte Hibberd) that the Supreme Court’s decision could be applied specifically to the seeds of sexually reproducing plants.  That decision was unique in that it allowed the seeds’ patent-holders to prevent anyone else from using the seeds for research or agricultural purposes.

    The upshot of this is that today, if you plant seeds that are patented, you are not legally allowed to take the seeds from your own plants and replant them.  You have to repurchase your seeds from their owner company every growing season.  When a particular kind of seed becomes popular (such as Monsanto’s ‘Roundup Ready’ corn, which you can spray Roundup all over without harming), the company has complete control over how much you pay.

    Monsanto, of course, is vicious about protecting its patent, to the point of suing farmers out of business if they don’t purchase the corn, on the assumption that they are using it by getting the seeds illegally.  (God forbid someone would want to just grow plain old corn!)  Even if the farmers’ cases go in their favor, Monsanto can and will spend hundreds of millions of dollars prolonging the court case just so that the legal fees alone will bankrupt a farmer on their blacklist.  By so doing, they’re slowly weeding out all of the farmers that dare to not buy their products at their grossly inflated prices.

    How inflated?  In the last two years, the price of corn seeds has spiked by thirty percent. Normally, this would completely shatter much of the economy because corn is used for everything from animal feed to industrial lubricant to food additives.  But the corn subsidies the government provides keep corn at a stable [artificially low] market price regardless of how much it costs to grow, so when Monsanto jacks up its prices, it’s actually the taxpayers that bear the burden.

    So, GMO corn is dramatically increasing our taxes ($3,975,606,299 in 2009 alone — that’s $12.86 for every man, woman, and child in the USA), as well as destroying the lives of farmers who try to fight it.  But it’s far worse than that.  It’s actually killing us as well.

    The reasons are many.  Some of the more obvious are quoted in the article linked above, but there are more.  Corn has the worst balance of essential fatty acids of any food Americans consume, and that has profound effects on cell health.  Corn also has more mycotoxic fungi living in and around it than any other grain, and while the FDA does periodic tests for aflatoxin (one of the most carcinogenic substances found in nature), they admit that they don’t have the manpower to catch it all, and that there are other mycotoxins that they simply can’t test for at all.

    That’s just corn in general — when you add the genetic tinkering that’s done to the corn on top of everything else, the results (according to this study by the International Journal on Biological Sciences) are organ failure and death.  According to the study’s author, “Our study contradicts Monsanto conclusions because Monsanto systematically neglects significant health effects in mammals that are different in males and females eating GMOs, or not proportional to the dose. This is a very serious mistake, dramatic for public health. This is the major conclusion revealed by our work, the only careful reanalysis of Monsanto crude statistical data.”

    Moreover, the effects of a poor diet (like the high-additive, high-refined-sugar diet the corn subsidies promote) accumulate over generations — which is a huge part of why the people who are now in their 20s and 30s are expected to be the first group that doesn’t live longer than their parents did.  Our children and grandchildren are only going to continue showing greater and greater effects of the deleterious diet that we’ve all unwittingly been manipulated into eating.

    There’s more — a lot more — to this debacle.  Untouched are subjects like the lack of GMO labeling laws in the USA (and subsequently the near-complete ignorance of the fact that 80% of the items in your grocery store have GMO corn-, soy-, or wheat-based ingredients in them), or the fact that 11 states have passed laws that make it illegal to claim that a vegetable or fruit is bad for you without having “sound scientific evidence”, or the environmental impacts of all of the Roundup that farmers [using ‘Roundup Ready’ corn] have sprayed into the environment over the last decade.

    In short, the corn subsidies have combined forces with an utterly foolish decision on the part of the Supreme Court to allow patents on living things to initiate the complete economic and biological meltdown of our country, and in many places merely pointing this out can get you thrown in jail.  On the bright side, it’s mostly the poor people who can’t afford real meats and vegetables who get physically punished by the phenomenon, so the corporate CEOs, Congress people, and Supreme Court judges who made it all happen don’t really have to worry about it unless and until the People figure it out for themselves.

    WHO says ‘H1N1 pandemic is over’

    WHO officials have declared an end to the H1N1 influenza pandemic, despite the fact that the virus is still circulating in many parts of the world.

    Based on the information gathered by the WHO’s Emergency Committee from around the world, H1N1 virus is still circulating around the globe and is responsible for localized outbreaks in certain places such as New Zealand.

    The virus, however, is believed to follow the trend of a typical seasonal flu, indicating that out-of-season outbreaks are no longer being reported in either the northern or southern hemispheres.

      “The new H1N1 virus has largely run its course,” said Director-General of the World Health Organization Margaret Chan on Tuesday, adding that influenza remains very unpredictable.

      She, therefore, urged health officials around the world to remain vigilant about the virus and make sure individuals, particularly the youngsters, receive the regular flu vaccine.

      “This time around we have been aided by pure good luck,” said Chan, adding that “The virus did not mutate during the pandemic to a more lethal form. Widespread resistance to oseltamivir [Tamiflu] did not develop. The vaccine proved to be a good match with circulating viruses and showed an excellent safety profile.”

      “Thanks to extensive preparedness and support form the international community, even countries with very weak health systems were able to detect cases and report them promptly,” said WHO’s director-general.

      Latest figures revealed that H1N1 virus had spread to more than 200 countries, claiming the lives of at least 11,516 individuals worldwide since its first appearance in April. The WHO declared the pandemic in June 2009, marking the first official flu pandemic since 1968.

      Many believe these statistics have underestimated the number of deaths as not everyone had been tested for swine flu and many were diagnosed as having influenza. An accurate death toll, therefore, will only be available within the next two years.
